The breathtaking Coast of Azure, the southeastern area of France, has long been an inspiration to many thanks to its crystal-clear waters, charming villages and untouched, dramatic landscape. Offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of the world, the Mediterranean coast is known as the summer destination for the world’s upper class.
The French Riviera and the House of Dior hold an incredible bond. It is where the great Christian Dior chose to reside in the 1950s—in a stunning piece of property named Château de La Colle Noire—with a beautiful garden reminiscent of the one at his childhood home in Normandy. It was his favourite place and a refuge of complete serenity. This lovely abode and its location also inspired the brand’s Creative Designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri, to conjure a dreamy, enchanting annual capsule named Dioriviera, comprising feminine, luxury summer staples in shades of pink or grey.
On the brand’s beauty front, Perfume Creation Director Francis KurkdjIan, who was appointed in 2021, was also inspired by the sweet, tender air of the Mediterranean coast and the beauty of the Château’s garden on a warm spring evening.
“The inspiration for the fragrance came to me suddenly in Provence, in the midst of a field below the Colle Noire estate. The southern sun was shining, the May roses were in bloom, and a warm breeze was blowing through the leaves of a majestic fig tree, my sole companion. This magical moment was seared into my memory, and in that very instant, the desire to create a perfume arose. Upon my return to Paris, a creative period began during which I shaped this love-at-first-sight, crafting the contours of its olfactory silhouette and transforming the idea into my first fragrance for La Collection Privée,” he says.
With a burning desire to turn the olfactory encounter into a fragrance, he began straight to work on creating the scent back in Paris. After going through many attempts and compositions that weren’t quite right, Kurkdijan finally came to the balance of an inviting and enveloping fragrance, aptly named Dioriviera by La Collection Privée Christian Dior, in which green, floral and fruity facets blend together beautifully. At the heart of the fragrance, recognisable among all others, is the beautiful combination of rose and fig—graceful, sunny and sensual.
