7 Things you didn’t know about Malaysian actor Ashraf Sinclair

And he was many things. The sad news of Ashraf Sinclair’s passing was reported early Tuesday (February 18) morning and was reported by mStar. The cause of death was heart attack. His mother, Khadijah Abdul Rahman confirmed it via WhatsApp: “Anak saya Ashraf telah pulang ke Rahmatullah. Dalam perjalanan ke Jakarta sekarang (My son Ashraf has died. On my way to Jakarta now).”

Most would remember Ashraf Sinclair fondly from the the 2005 movie Gol & Gincu (as well as the series itself) when he played the role of Eddy. He was also the host of ntv7’s Box Office Now and 8TV’s Realiti. His acting career may have started in 2004 but since then, he has been involved in a variety of fields. For that, he was an inspiration to many. Here are seven things you may not have know about Ashraf Sinclair.

 

 

1. He was born in London

Ashraf Daniel Mohammed Sinclair was born to a British father and a Malay mother on September 18, 1978 in London. He is the elder brother of actress and Mix FM deejay Aishah Sinclair, and Adam Sinclair (yes, the husband of Malaysian singer Yuna).

 

 

2. His first foray into the entertainment industry

Believe it or not, Ashraf Sinclair was first a model, having made his first appearance in a Kasut Gombak advertisement in 1990s.

 

3. He married popular Indonesian singer-actress Bunga Citra Lestari

Not long after Ashraf expanded his career to Indonesia, he met Bunga Citra Lestari (also publicly known as BCL). The couple married in 2008 in Jakarta, and have a son, Noah Aidan Sinclair, who’s currently 10 years old.

 

 

4. He had an entrepreneurial spirit

In terms of his career, Ashraf was more than just an actor, host or celebrity. He was also an investor. A former Venture Partner at 500 Startups, he joined the company in 2017. Prior to that, according to e27, he participated in a a pre-seed investment in concert crowdfunding platform Konsaato with his wife, Bunga Citra Lestari. In addition, he has invested in restaurant chain TGIF Indonesia, opened restaurants, gyms, content and production agencies.

 

 

5. His first taste of startups

His first angel investment with 500 Startups was Korean cosmetics company Althea. Did you know he’s also one of the investors of iflix?

 

 

6. He once produced a sold-out solo concert for his wife

It was attended by 35,000 people

 

 

7. He started an entertainment-based company

Together with his sister Aishah, and best friend and actress Sazzy Falak, they founded SinclairFalak Sdn Bhd.

 

 

It was too soon but we can only wish Ashraf Sinclair to rest in peace and we send our deep condolences to his friends and family.
