The Modern Dad’s Love Language Might Just Be Food

Ahead of Father’s Day 2026, we reflect on the subtle ways dads express their love and how food has long been one of their most meaningful love languages.

In many Asian households, it’s no secret that fathers aren’t always the most expressive—or at least, that’s been my experience. Growing up, my dad and I were never the type to have long heart-to-heart conversations or openly talk about our feelings. In fact, “I love you” wasn’t something we said often, and affection rarely came in the form of hugs or grand gestures. But somehow, dads always find their own ways to show they care. For mine, that care often came through food.

Over the years, I’ve come to realise that while many fathers may not always wear their hearts on their sleeves, they notice the little things. It was the occasional text asking if I’d eaten, or remembering that I had casually mentioned craving something and unexpectedly showing up with it a few days later. It was him insisting I take the last piece of chicken at dinner, even though I knew he wanted it too. Sometimes, it was hearing him say, “Never mind, just order what you want,” whenever I hesitated over the price of something on the menu.

Perhaps that’s why food holds such a special place in many Malaysian families. These gestures, seemingly ordinary, reveal a kind of love that reminds us that being cared for can sometimes feel as simple as being well fed.

While mothers have traditionally shouldered much of the work in the kitchen, family dynamics today are evolving. More fathers are becoming increasingly hands-on at home, whether as equal parenting partners or as single dads navigating every responsibility on their own. As they step into these roles, many are discovering what generations of mothers have long known: feeding a family involves far more than just cooking.

Behind every breakfast before school or dinner after work lies a long list of unseen tasks: planning meals, checking what’s left in the fridge, and keeping track of dietary restrictions or preferences. It’s the kind of labour that often goes unnoticed, yet these everyday routines are what keep a household running and make a home feel lived in and loved.

And maybe that’s why food often becomes intertwined with memory. Years from now, we may not remember the details of a normal Tuesday, but we’ll remember the things that surrounded it—family dinners around the table, favourite dishes prepared with care, and the comforting smell of home-cooked meals filling the house. These moments become part of our family stories, passed down through generations and remembered long after the meals themselves are gone.

Of course, modern life can be demanding, and balancing work, family, and daily responsibilities isn’t always easy. That’s why many households are turning to tools that help simplify meal preparation without sacrificing the experience of cooking together. The Thermomix TM7 fits naturally into this new chapter of family life, helping busy caregivers spend less time juggling multiple tasks and more time with the people they love. Whether it’s helping dads recreate treasured family recipes, experiment with new dishes, or simply get dinner on the table after a long day, it serves as a helping hand in the kitchen, supporting the everyday rituals that make family meals so meaningful.

For families looking to create more of those moments together, Thermomix Malaysia is celebrating Father’s Day with exclusive TM7 promotions. Customers who bring home a new TM7 from 11 to 21 June 2026 will receive RM600 worth of store vouchers, while those who purchase the TM7 between 22 and 28 June 2026 will enjoy RM500 worth of store vouchers.

Throughout the promotional period, a second Mixing Bowl is also available at a special price of RM688. Perhaps the greatest gift we can give our dads isn’t just something for the kitchen, but more opportunities to gather around the table, share a meal, and create lasting memories together.
