The BURO Impact Awards celebrates the creativity, originality, passion, and accomplishments of Malaysia’s trailblazing talents. Ahead, find our conversation with our Beauty Creative of the Year, Juno Ko.

If there is one place you’ll probably find Juno Ko, it’s on set—typically armed with a hair tool of some sort and a can of hairspray. As a session stylist, Ko is at home behind the camera, but today, he finds himself on the other side of the lens, front and centre for our 2025 BURO Impact Awards. With over 16 years of experience under his belt and one of the most impressive portfolios in the country, it’s a no-brainer that he has earned the title of ‘Beauty Creative of the Year’.

From red carpets to magazine spreads, Ko’s creations have always been a cut above the rest. However, in recent years, his work has propelled him onto the international stage. His roster of celebrity clients speaks for itself, including familiar faces like Ameera Khan, Henry Moodie, and most notably, Tilda Swinton.

Whether it’s on the runway, in print, or on TV, his signature is unmistakable; equal parts expressive and technically masterful. Ko’s ability to finesse texture and silhouette into everything from the avant-garde to the chic has made him a highly sought-after name in the industry, and his recent work only serves to further cement his position as a creative to watch.

Still, behind every editorial look is an artist whose curiosity, humour, and humility shape his craft, and we’re here to pull back the curtain by way of a questionnaire. Read on to get to know our Beauty Creative of the Year beyond his work as a hairstylist:

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is having built a career doing what I love. I’m always creating something new and making people feel confident and beautiful through hairstyling. It took years of practice, patience, and passion to get to where I am today.

What is your most treasured possession?

My styling set, for sure. It’s more than just a tool—it represents my journey and growth as a stylist.

Who are your heroes in real life?

My parents and family. They worked hard and sacrificed a lot so I could chase my dreams.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Doing what I love every day, being surrounded by good people, and having peace of mind.

Probably how much I have spent on good hair tools.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My craft is the greatest love of my life. It’s something that fulfils me deeply and gives me purpose.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Sometimes I overthink too much. I’d like to be more relaxed and spontaneous.

Ideally, somewhere peaceful, but with a great creative and artistic community.

What do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty, honesty, and the ability to make each other laugh no matter what.

What are the words you live by?

“Do it with love, or not at all.”
