Yes, you read that right. The weekend is indeed here and we are indeed back to tell you all about the best things happening around the city. In this edition of the BURO Weekend Guide, we’ve rounded up nine events that we think are worth considering adding to your calendar. The “I Love Sushi” exhibit, for example, is a must-see for anyone who can’t get enough of the Japanese staple. Meanwhile, over at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Amanda Wan of Three X Co is teaming up with dessert maestros Loi Ming Ai from Voilà Patisserie and Justin Lee of Seoul’s JL Dessert Bar for a one-of-a-kind afternoon tea. 1. WORK UP AN APPETITE WITH ART AT THE “I LOVE SUSHI” EXHIBIT

The Japan Foundation Cultural Travelling Exhibition “I Love Sushi” is landing in Malaysia this weekend as the pioneer stop on its tour! In collaboration with The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur, the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Urban Museum (Ur-Mu), and Sushi Hibiki, this show is dedicated to the art of sushi. Beyond being one of Japan’s biggest culinary icons, sushi also serves as a reflection of Japanese culture. At this exhibit, you’ll learn all about its cultural implications, gastronomic significance, and history through the visuals, models, as well as a virtual reality sushi shop. You’ll also get a peek into the Japanese way of life through these little morsels.

2. DISCOVER THE WORLD OF ZEEKR AT ITS ROADSHOW IN PAVILION BUKIT JALIL

3. CHEERS WITH DESSERTS AND DRINKS AT THIRTY8’S AFTERNOON TEA SOIRÉE

The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur will be serving as the setting of a showcase of true flavour-forward talent. Amanda Wan (Three X Co), Loi Ming Ai (Voilà Patisserie), and Justin Lee (JL Dessert Bar, Seoul) are set to take over Thirty8 as a trio, serving up creative cocktails and dessert pairings. The meal begins with a series of savoury amuse-bouche from chef Kim Kang of Grand Hyatt, before it moves onto the sweet creations from chefs Lee and Loi. Each course will come accompanied by Wan’s cocktails, all made with No.3 London Dry Gin. Spirit-free alternatives are also available.

6. EXPLORE THE WORKS OF YOUNG LOCAL ARTISTS AT THE ILHAM ART SHOW 2025

The Ilham Art Show 2025 is putting the spotlight on twenty selected contemporary artists, featuring their works that span various mediums. From paintings and drawings to sculptures and videos, the exhibition is brimming with pieces that are highly explorative and reflective of the artists’ personalities. The artists were selected by a regional panel of leading figures in the industry, who acted as guidance and advisors during the six-month working period the artists were given to produce their art. Names on the roster include: Marcos Kueh, Emran Beams Shaqif, Roopesh Sitharan, and Kim Ng. There will be public programmes and activities planned for you to get to know the artists and their work better, so stay tuned!

At Awegallery, watercolour artist Ong Jian Yang’s “Somewhere, Quietly” exhibition features a selection of work that encapsulates the subtle beauty of everyday life. The 29-year-old artist has shown his works across the world, including in London and China, and is now returning home for his debut solo show. In his paintings, Ong utilises gentle colours and shapes to portray how life pulses through even the quietest of settings.
