5 Iconic pieces of jewellery Kate Middleton has worn from Princess Diana’s collection

Although it has been 26 years since Princess Diana’s untimely death, her family, friends, and supporters have never forgotten the ‘people’s princess’ and continue to pay tribute in every way they can think of. Kate Middleton, in particular, does not shy away from wearing matching ensembles or exquisite pieces of jewels to honour her mother-in-law’s legacy. After all, Lady Di owns a breathtaking jewellery collection, most of which has been passed down as heirlooms.

Below, we take a closer look at some of Princess Diana’s most poignant and exceptional pieces of jewellery that the new Princess of Wales has worn in recent years.

For King Charles III’s coronation, Middleton paired her Alexander McQueen ivory silk dress with Lady Di’s beloved South Sea pearl earrings. A closer look reveals a dangling pearl drop suspended from a diamond-encrusted circular silhouette. This is not the first time the classic pair of earrings have been spotted on the former Duchess of Cambridge, as she has previously worn them on multiple occasions.

Sapphire engagement ring

Did you know that Prince William proposed to Middleton with the same engagement ring that his father handed to Princess Diana over four decades ago? Boasting a deep, intense 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire with a halo of diamonds surrounding it, the ring crafted by British jeweller Garrard takes on new significance and sentiment when it is placed on the future Queen’s hand.

Emerald choker

Believe us when we tell you that evergreen necklaces exist, such as this dazzling choker passed down from Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth before being presented to Diana as a wedding gift. The glamorous necklace is composed of emerald stones nestled between brilliant diamonds, and she loved it so much that she donned it as a headband during a night out in 1985. Middleton celebrates her legacy by donning it to the Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston, which matches her off-the-shoulder Solace London gown.

Sapphire and diamond earrings

And it’s another gemstone moment, as Middleton wore the double-drop earrings worn by Princess Diana at the 1985 White House Gala. The gorgeous earrings features two Cabochon Sapphire drops accented with diamonds and were seen on the mother of three during the Trooping the Colour procession in 2022 as well as on her trip to Boston a few months later.

The Lover’s Knot tiara

This extraordinary piece was initially designed for Queen Mary, but it became another wedding gift for Lady Di when she tied the knot with the former Princer Charles III in 1981. “The tiara has fat pearls hanging like ripe fruit from a row of diamond-encrusted, curved hearts, an enduring motif for the House,” says the crown’s maker, Garrard. While Diana wore the tiara at several high-profile events, Middleton mostly put on it to Buckingham Palace banquets.
