Corum teams up with ex-footballer Djibril Cissé for a special Bubble watch
The Lion roars
Djibril Cissé is a collector with a sophisticated taste. This is one of the reasons why he was recently roped in as a friend of Corum to design a very exclusive Bubble timepiece. The former footballer nicknamed 'The Lion' already owns a Bubble that he regularly wears; hence the Bubble 52 immediately became a starting point for creating his own version.
"I had been planning to work with him for a long time," explained Jérôme Biard, CEO of Corum. "He wanted to get in touch with us and, at the same time, so did we. So, we met up in Lausanne, with the shared desire to create something together."
And create they did! Cissé is dubbed as a 'serial entrepreneur', who not only once had a football jersey to his name but also several films, a book, two solo albums, TV appearances, a DJ career, his own clothing brand and many other collaborations to his credit.
His collaboration with Corum was to design a timepiece with a subtle nod to his footballing career while playing up his all-round overflowing creativity. Cissé wanted a daring watch—a skull that is exclusively designed for him by Corum is featured at the centre of his Bubble 52. While the number '9' – a reference to his past as a top athlete and the number on his striker jersey – shines through the jaw of the skull in gold.
This timepiece is powered by an automatic calibre with 65 hours of power reserve. You'll find a dial with no hands in this piece—a deliberate choice to give the skull the fiercest look possible as it covers almost the entire surface. What you'll see is an off-centre hour display called 'Magical', which rests on a flange with a complete timer and two red circles sweeping over it. How do you tell the time? The biggest one indicates the hours and the other indicates the minutes.
The Corum x Bubble 52 Djibril Cissé watch collection is limited to 88 pieces only.
