How Doja Cat and Chopard Stole the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards

Everybody say ‘Thank you, Doja Cat’ for bringing camp back to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The rapper ascended the red carpet of this year’s ceremony and took it upon herself to serve sumptuous visuals—what the VMAs are all about—giving the main characters of your favourite eighties shows a run for their money. But beyond the retro quilted minidress, the dramatic do, and the lipstick-lunching act, she brought some serious sparkles to the evening.

Doja, who was nominated in the Song of the Summer category for her single ‘Jealous Type’, came decked in dazzling jewellery creations from Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie collection. The sweeping earrings, in particular, stole the show. Crafted in titanium, the pair features feminine pink sapphires totalling 37.32 carats, complementing the crystal trimmings on the singer’s outfit. The white diamonds that come in tow lend the pieces a unique visual texture.

But wait, there’s more. Doja went full maximalist in her style approach, donning not one, not two, but three statement rings to the event. Similarly reflective of the Balmain number on the ‘Say So’ singer—a deliberate choice by stylist Brett Alan Nelson, we reckon—the rings boast precious coloured stones you could see from a mile away. The 18K yellow and white gold ring was especially noteworthy, parading a hefty 15.33-carat cushion-shaped yellow diamond.

Adding a sweet juxtaposition to the soft hue of the stone is the 18K rose gold ring, which features a staggering 11.79-carat cushion-shaped pink sapphire as its crown jewel. Elevating the opulent design is the orchestra of diamonds framing the centrepiece that collectively sing at 7.58 carats. The third ring spotted on Doja offered a refreshing counterpoint to a look that screamed ‘more is more’. Fashioned in 18K white gold, the piece highlights a 6.42-carat cushion-shaped diamond.

The fact of the matter is that both Doja and Chopard are red carpet royalty. The former’s crystallised couture look at the Schiaparelli show from a couple of years back still lives in our head rent-free. As for the latter, its ability to consistently raise the bar when it comes to red carpet dressing simply needs to be studied. Case in point: the breathtaking ensemble of titanium earrings and a white gold bracelet on Julia Roberts at the recently-wrapped Venice Film Festival.
