With borders reopening and revenge travel on just about everyone’s minds, the hospitality and tourism industry is ready to bounce back after a tough two years. Global hotel chains have been looking forward to this silver lining as they gear up for the launch of their latest properties and offerings in 2022.

In Asia alone, there will be more than a dozen luxury hotel openings this year across major cities, islands, and tropical jungles. If you’re looking for new 5-star accommodations for your next trip in Asia, consider these hotels and resorts that will welcome visitors from this year onwards.

 

1. Hilton Singapore Orchard, Singapore

Hilton Group marked the debut of its largest hotel in Asia Pacific with the launch of the Hilton Singapore Orchard in February. Set along Orchard Road, the city’s world-famous shopping district, the hotel boasts 1,080 rooms, a plethora of award-winning dining experiences, well-equipped meeting spaces for business travellers, and a direct connection to luxury shopping centre Mandarin Gallery. With its strategic location, the hotel is poised to be the perfect respite in between shopping, dining, business, and leisure activities.

2. ParkRoyal Collection Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Pan Pacific Hotels Group celebrated the opening of ParkRoyal Collection Kuala Lumpur in early June, bringing the ParkRoyal Collection brand to Malaysia. Designed with the environment and wellness of being in mind, the hotel features a roof terrace spanning 13,000 square feet of plants as well as a vertical garden facade with sky planters—offering a verdant spot of green amidst the surrounding concrete jungle. It has 527 rooms and suites, each equipped with sustainable bathroom amenities and filtered drinking water, along with wellness facilities such as a St Gregory spa, a modern gymnasium, a fitness studio, and an outdoor swimming pool.

3. Mandarin Oriental, Shenzhen

One of the first luxury hotel openings to kick off 2022’s exciting hospitality lineup was none other than Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen. Occupying the 67th to 79th floors of the colossal UpperHills skyscraper, the hotel offers scenic bird’s eye views of the bustling cityscape, including the Lotus Hill Park and Shenzhen Bay nearby. It houses 178 rooms and suites equipped with high-end amenities such as Diptyque toiletries and Dyson hairdryers, as well as Bose Bluetooth speakers and walk-in closets. The hotel’s eight restaurants and bars also make it a hotspot for foodies, with cuisine options ranging from Cantonese to Spanish to Japanese.

4. Melia Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai welcomed Spanish hotel chain Melia in April as the first luxury hotel to open in the northern Thai city after the pandemic. The 5-star hotel is situated on the vibrant Charoen Prathet Road, overlooking the River Ping and the famous Night Bazaar. Its elegant yet contemporary design story pays respect to the city’s charming history and culture, with gold accents and a warm colour palette. There are nine categories of accommodation ranging from 30 to 113 square meters in size, making a total of 260 rooms and suites in the 22-floor property. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, fully-equipped gym, and the brand’s renowned YHI Spa.

5. Anantara Ubud Bali Resort, Indonesia

Anantara is set to launch its third property in Bali after Seminyak and Uluwatu, dubbed Anantara Ubud Bali Resort. Situated amidst a tropical jungle and scenic paddy fields, the modern hotel consists of 85 guest rooms and pool villas that reflect the culture and traditions of the local town. Guests who are keen on longer stays can also choose one of 15 Anantara-branded residences to call home.

6. Regent Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Couples will find a romantic escape at Vietnam’s new Regent Phu Quoc, located along the west coast of the popular island, near the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The beachfront estate boasts 176 suites and 126 villas offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand, along with modern interiors and a minimalist aesthetic. Completing the resort’s facilities are six unique dining experiences, an all-day health club with a fitness centre and spa services, and meeting spaces for business events and celebratory occasions alike.

7. The Standard, Bangkok, Thailand

After the opening of its first Thailand hotel in Hua Hin, The Standard is now gearing up for the launch of another property in the country’s capital of Bangkok Mahanakhon. The Standard, Bangkok will serve as the Miami-based hotel chain’s flagship in Asia, bringing its brand of youthful spirit to the region. It will feature 155 rooms alongside several notable dining venues, including the famed The Standard Grill, Mott 32, Rooftop Restaurant and Bar, and The Tea Room.

8. InterContinental Khao Yai Resort, Thailand

Nestled amidst 50,000 trees and seven lakes in Khao Yai’s National Park, InterContinental Resort Khao Yai offers a unique stay for the adventurous travellers. 9. Raffles Resort & Spa Sentosa, Singapore

More than 135 years after the first Raffles hotel opened in Singapore, the hotel chain is set to open its second property in the country on Sentosa Island later this year. The resort and spa will be Singapore’s first all-villa hotel, comprising 62 villas in total—each with its own private pool and terrace area. The property will also include a bar, fitness centre, several restaurants, and ballrooms. To top it all off, guests will enjoy the signature Raffles Butlers around-the-clock butler service.

10. Alila Dalit Bay, Malaysia

Alila will be opening an eco-resort in Sabah’s northern coast this year, located just a 40-minute drive away from Kota Kinabalu. Sprawled across 17 acres of land which includes a strip of white sand beach, the beachfront resort will feature 152 suites and 74 villas complete with private pool and gardens boasting panoramic views of the Mengkabong River. Designed with eco-tourism in mind, the resort features environment-friendly villas made from woven rattan, local timber, and tribal artefacts that allow natural airflow.

11. Jumeirah Bali, Indonesia

Jumeirah Group expanded its international portfolio with the launch of its first property in Bali back in April—an all-villa luxury resort named Jumeirah Bali. Perched atop limestone cliffs in Uluwatu, the luxury resort features 123 villas with one- and two-bedroom configurations, as well as a four-bedroom Royal Water Palace. Each villa boasts its own private pool and outdoor living area with an open pavilion overlooking either the sunset horizon or a lush tropical garden. There are three signature restaurants and bars for guests to indulge in without leaving the resort, each offering idyllic views of the island’s crystal azure waters and sunset panoramas.

12. Avani Chaweng Samui Hotel & Beach Club, Koh Samui, Thailand

Located smack in the middle of Koh Samui’s best beach, Avani Chaweng makes a splashing debut as the island’s first mid-century-inspired hotel.
