Why Resorts World Sentosa Singapore’s S.E.A. Aquarium is more than just that

There’s a good reason why S.E.A. Aquarium is a must-visit when in Singapore. For those who have yet to dive deeper into what the popular attraction has to offer, we’ve fished out everything you’ve been missing out on below.

1. The incredible variety of marine life at S.E.A. Aquarium

As one of the world’s largest aquariums, it is home to more than 100,000 marine animals of over 1,000 species, including endangered ones such as the manta ray, Clarion angelfish and a variety of beautiful corals.

2. Witness what happens to a shipwreck

Like a scene out of a movie, the habitat is your first stop upon entering the premises. While it does act as a simulation as to how shipwrecks evolve into thriving marine habitats, it’s also where the aquarium’s shark rays call home. A threatened species that’s usually hard to breed under human care, S.E.A. Aquarium has managed to create the world’s most successful shark ray breeding programme. Look out for the endangered ornate eagle ray here too – it’s the first of its kind to be featured in zoos and aquariums worldwide.

3. Learn more about sharks

Walk past the Shipwreck Habitat and into the underwater tunnel for a 360-degree view of the world of Shark Seas with its over 100 sharks of 12 different species. Be in awe as you watch them move through the waters around you or discover common myths about them as you make your way out of the tunnel.

4. The star of the aquarium

Every tourist attraction has a centrepiece and at S.E.A. Aquarium, it’s the Open Ocean Habitat with its stunning viewing panel that’s 36m wide and 8.3m tall. Holding 18 million litres of water and housing over 40,000 marine animals, it’s truly a sight to behold as you watch majestic reef manta rays, goliath groupers, and more than 100 other species gracefully swim past.

5. A dome just to watch the manta rays

Once you’re able to actually tear your eyes away from the mesmerising Open Ocean Habitat, make your way to the nearby Ocean Dome where you’ll be able to watch a squadron of manta rays (and their smiley faces) glide by above.

6. Dine with the sea creatures

You could easily take up at least half a day at S.E.A. Aquarium. Thus, if and when, you’re feeling peckish, there’s Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora for a unique aquarium dining experience complemented by a grand view of the Open Ocean Habitat.

7. Stay overnight with the sea creatures

Similarly, you can check into the luxurious Ocean Suite where the view outside your window is different from your usual cityscape; it’s instead an underwater view of the busy Open Ocean Habitat.

8. Make your friends jelly with the sea jelly gallery

Easily yet another Instagram-worthy spot at the aquarium, the sight of these 1,000 sea jellies are enhanced with special lightings.

9. Marine conservation projects

Officially known as Guardians of the S.E.A.A., the aquarium’s conservation group is relentlessly involved in various projects be it supporting research, spreading awareness or conducting breeding programs. Come World Oceans Day and they’d have curated a line-up of activities to promote sustainable living and ocean protection.

10. Ultimate Marine Encounters

The fun doesn’t stop there as S.E.A. Aquarium offers a variety of premium programmes separately for those who desire a more up-close and hands-on experience. For example, Sea Trek Adventure, which is suitable even for non-swimmers, lets you suit up with underwater helmets, descend three metres and stroll amongst the marine life; while Open Ocean Dive will have you diving for 30 minutes in the Open Ocean Habitat with the manta rays.
