The end of the year is slowly creeping up on us! In between all the gift buying and festive planning, there are still tons to get done to prepare for the celebrations. While you’re at it, you can’t miss out on all the exciting events that are still going on around the KL & PJ area. Enter the BURO Weekend Guide! From one of Malaysia’s largest pet expo and a celebration of local film talents to a natural wine fair and a pre-loved market, there are tons to look forward to on both 7 and 8 December 2024, so let’s get right to it!

 

1. GET IN SOME RETAIL THERAPY FOR YOU AND YOUR FURKID AT OH MY PET! EXPO

Where: Mid Valley Exhibition Center

Price: Free entry

Malaysia’s largest pet expo has returned for the weekend at Mid Valley Exhibition Center! With over a hundred vendors in the lineup, you’re bound to discover new brands and products to spoil your furkid with. From treats and kibble to toys and apparel, the vendors cover every corner of the pet industry. Standout vendors include Notti, Supaw Food, Coco & Joe, Furkids Planet, Barkery Oven, and Love for Paws. Aside from shopping, you can also take part in a bunch of activities for you and your furkid. There will also be an adoption drive happening to connect dogs with forever homes. And yes, the event is pet-friendly, so don’t leave your little ones at home!

2. CHEER ON LOCAL FILMMAKERS AT THE BMW SHORTIES FINALISTS’ SCREENING

Price: Free entry

Put on your film buff hats, we’re going to the BMW Shorties Finalists Screening! The annual film contest has reached its last stages and we’re this close to crowning a new winner. On the roster are ten short films made by local talents—including repeat finalist Chew Boon Wai and BMW Shorties debutant Fattah Fawzy—that you’ll get to watch on the big screen with complimentary popcorn alongside fellow cinemaphiles. The screening is split into two sessions with a live music performance slotted in between as intermission. If you can’t make it but still want to watch the finalists’ works, click here

3. CELEBRATE OUR LITTLE CUP’S FIRST BIRTHDAY AT ‘OUR LITTLE HOUSE PARTY’

When: 7 December 2024 | 9am onwards

Where: Our Little Cup

Price: RM50 (All-day pass) | RM40 (Sun & Run, inclusive of 5km social run, all-day pass, and one birthday drink)

Our Little Cup is ringing in its first birthday and is celebrating the best way they know how: with some good running, music, drinks, food, and friends! This house party isn’t like any other house party as it kicks off with an early 5km social run that ends with some birthday drinks and tunes. The party then truly begins at 9am as Coffeeboy Records takes to the decks to get the music started. Kura’s Krafts and upstairs neighbour Louie’s Bar will also be joining in on the celebrations with drinks and bites for everyone.

5. TAKE YOURSELF SHOPPING AT PASAR SELOKA’S WEEKEND PICNIC

The time has come for the ever-popular Pasar Seloka’s final Weekend Picnic of the year! Come with your shopping A-game and reusable bags because the lineup is looking incredible. Aside from exploring local brands on the retail side, you’ll also get to munch on delectable bites and sips thanks to the F&B partners. An exciting addition to this weekend’s schedule is the ‘Terpaling Pre-Loved’ section, featuring the secondhand closets of local personalities such as Azwin Shafinaz and Dahlia Nadirah.

6. MAKE POUR DECISIONS AT JOLOKO’S NATURAL WINE FAIR 

When: 7 December 2024 | 12pm to 9pm

Where: Joloko

Price: RM20 to RM35

Joloko is hosting its fifth Natural Wine Fair this Saturday and you’re invited! There, you’ll get a taste of over 100 wines available by the glass and also by the bottle at wholesale prices. If you’re a believer in the natural wine movement, then this event is a must-visit. The bottles you’ll see are courtesy of some of Malaysia’s biggest importers including Unwined, Corevino, DC Wines, and Gentle Giants. Joloko food will also be available all day long to keep your stomachs lined and DJ’s on hand to keep the energy going.

7. SUPPORT YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS AT ‘KIDS MARKET: BY KIDS, FOR KIDS’ AT PUCKS COFFEE

Pucks Coffee and Three Mamas have joined forces to host the first-ever ‘Kids Market: By Kids, For Kids’, featuring none other than the young ones as sellers for the weekend. The lineup puts 40 young entrepreneurs in the spotlight, who will be selling their old toys, puzzles, and more. Some will also be selling their own homemade baked goods and handmade art pieces. Aim to get there early because the first 60 children to arrive each day will receive their very own mini Oatside pack as a treat! For food, Mushroom Club will be in the kitchen whipping up some bites for the weekend.
