This popular Penang store ranked 9th in the 2017 World Street Food Top 50 list

There’s just so much to eat in Penang (but so little time) while locals would argue which is their pick of the best [insert name of dish] in town. The recent World Street Food Congress 2017 which was held in Manila, the Philippines, however, have picked two particular eateries there as two of their Top 50 “world street food masters”.

At No. 9 is Line Clear Nasi Kandar Restaurant (as recommended in our Buro City Guide: Penang) while Siam Road Char Koay Teow placed at No. 14 (as mentioned in our insider’s guide to the island). (Dato’ Nicol David had another place in mind for her favourite char koay teow though.)

According to the congress’ official website, the winners are evaluated by a panel of widely travelled commentators, writers, food celebrities and professionals and are based on ingredients, food preparation, hygiene, adaptability, consistency, confidence and the quality and flavour of food.

The other four Malaysian outlets that made it to the list are: Fauzi Nasi Kerabu, Terengganu (23), Nonya Mee Siam Donald & Lily, Melaka (34), Guan Heong Biscuit Shop, Ipoh (36), and Jalan Kuli Satay, Melaka (43).
