There are perhaps few institutions that are as iconic as New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in showcasing amazing and important works of art. Since its inception, MoMA has staged over 3,000 exhibitions that include painting, photography, film, installation, design and even performance.
Now the gallery is bringing us closer to Pablo Picasso’s paintings, Andy Warhol’s pop art, Ai Weiwei’s photographs and more through its new launched online archive. We’ll be able to see many of the exhibitions showcased at MoMA, even from way before we were born. There are more than 33,000 images as well as hundreds of out of print catalogues, thousands of exhibition checklists and previously unseen documents available.
Take a historical tour and time travel to 1929 when the first exhibition was displayed with four major names – Cezanne, Gaugin, Seurat and Van Gogh. Or move to 2015 to see Yoko Ono: One Woman Show. The archive is an impressive collection that will stir the minds of creative fans.
Moving on, MoMA will continue to update its archive to include other exhibits, film and performance in the future. You can search for all artworks here.
