Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launches a new generation of A-Class

There wasn’t much to dislike about the previous Mercedes-Benz A-Class—it was a great car. But the premium automobile brand is always on the ball to make it even better and they’ve done it in the new generation of the A-Class. Called the most progressive model in the compact class, the new generation A-Class has both newly-introduced innovations and added features that would satisfy even the criteria you’ve never thought of before.

Dynamic Select feature

One notable star feature is the Dynamic Select driving programme selector which allows the driver to choose their preferred driving mode. The vehicle characteristics—engine, transmission, steering and air conditioning—can be adjusted in a matter of seconds with just a touch of a button. Choose from four driving modes: “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Eco” and “Individual”. The last option allows you to fully customise every item manually.

Expanded engine range

Mercedes-Benz has increased the range of available engines, especially with the introduction of a new A 180 which is rated at 90 w (122 hp) for its petrol engine. A new 4-cyclinder, 1.6 liter engine has been included, giving everyone a wider variety to select from based on their preference. For the driver who loves a car with dynamic performance, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC now has a maximum output of 280 kW (381 hp) and a peak torque of 475 Nm. In English: it accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds lesser than its predecessor. However, it maintains its NEDC minimum fuel consumption of 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres.

Intelligent Drive mode: drowsiness detection system

There are numerous driving assistance systems out there, but Mercedes-Benz has upgraded that game with the drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST. Using data from various sensor technologies, the A-Class has a five-stage bar display to visualise the driver’s current attention level and thus is able to give comprehensive support and protection within an extended speed range (60 – 200 km/h).
