You can literally “write” like Kurt Cobain, David Bowie and more

Songwriters are soulful creatures who often pen their deepest thoughts and feelings down on paper. Each exudes his or her own style and nuance that distinctively makes the handwritten piece a valuable note or memoir.

The likes of Kurt Cobain, David Bowie, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg seem to have made lasting impressions when they were around. So much so that their handwriting have been turned into free typefaces by designers, Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens.

Lennon’s handwriting is described as organised, while Bowie’s a little graphic and Gainsbourg has an expressive flair. The designers analysed each handwriting from a purely visual perspective. Cobain’s is said to capture his poetic spirit – sometimes tortured and other times sad, but mostly honest with his lazy c’s and tiny i’s glimpsed from his lyrical scribble and suicide letter among others.

Meanwhile Cohen who was a poet and novelist before he started his music career, wrote with such a  style that it’s uniquely beautiful. His cursive writing is not exactly graceful but bears a romantic nuance with traces of pain.
