Japan’s largest and most aesthetic bookstore chain, Tsutaya Books, is coming to Pavilion Bukit Jalil

Are you a bookworm looking for a new haven to get lost in? Or is there a special someone in your life who is that bookworm? Perhaps you’re in need of a cool new spot to feature on your socials, or you’re just looking for an excuse to leave the house—no matter the reason, you’ll definitely want to visit Tsutaya Books’ very first Southeast Asian store coming soon to Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Set to open in the first quarter of 2022, the bookstore will be the first outlet from the famous Japanese bookstore chain in the region. What a treat for Malaysians!

Sprawled out across a sweeping 31,000 square feet space, Tsutaya Books at Pavilion Bukit Jalil will feature floor-to-ceiling shelves containing books of every genre, an abundant selection of gifts and souvenirs, and a cosy cafe where you can mull over your thoughts on your latest read while enjoying a delicious spread of pastries and beverages. Have kids with you? Family-friendly activity spaces, an in-store playground, and low-reaching shelves will make sure that the little ones have just as memorable an experience as yours. The store aims to offer an immersive experience and serve as a calming space where the local community may bond and be inspired.

“In line with our vision to cultivate culture and lifestyle, we hope to create a space for families and children who love books, design, and art to grow, explore and thrive together at Tsutaya Books.” — Hideyuki Uemoto, Head of Tsutaya Books Malaysia

Excited but feeling a little overwhelmed by all the amazing attractions Tsutaya Books’ Malaysian debut will be bringing in? Fret not, for the store’s services include help from an expert panel of Concierges who will be more than happy to improve visitors’ experiences in-store. Searching for a specific title and don’t want to waste time digging through the endless shelves? Or are you in need of personalised recommendations to add to your reading list? The team at Tsutaya will ensure that everything is a breeze, allowing you and your loved ones more time to browse and soak up the ambience.

Most importantly, one of the main appeals of the bookstore that sets it apart from others is its place in Japanese pop-culture. The Tsutaya Bookstore chain is Japan’s largest retail bookstore chain, with 1,200 stores in Japan alone and more than 1,400 branches worldwide. Each outlet is curated with its own distinct identity and concept, presenting whole new experiences for visitors at each location.

The brand’s iconic Daikanyama T-Site branch in Tokyo, located just a hop from Shibuya, has been coined as a book lover’s paradise, and the single must-visit bookstore for bookworms visiting Japan. A sibling store in Ginza Six is the self-proclaimed world’s best art bookstore and houses books, but also a coffee shop operated by Starbucks Reserve.

While we advise planning out a whole day to properly savour all the store has to offer, Pavilion Bukit Jalil has many other attractions for you to check out if you need a break from the forest of shelves, or just want something else to fill your time with. The mall boasts multiple well-known international brands, such as Absolute Siam Store, Ecotopia and Iconcraft from Thailand’s top world-class retail developer Siam Piwat, award-winning Taiwanese pottery brand Lohas, and China’s foremost tea company TianYue Tea Joy, just to name a few.
