Already well known in the local show biz scene as an actress and singer, Fazura can now add songwriter to her list of talents. Just released today, her latest single ‘Can’t Forget Me’ is an empowering track that drives home the message of self-love and staying strong no matter what comes your way.
Faz explains: “I chose to say ‘Can’t Forget Me’ instead of ‘Can’t Forget You’ because we always listen to songs of heartbreak about the other person, so I wanted to write a song to empower myself, as well as the people out there. It’s my way of saying it’s not always about the person, but it’s also about you. I wanted it to channel strength and the importance of loving yourself more than anything, instead of focusing on heartache. This song is not just for the ladies—it’s for anyone going through a hard time, and I hope my fans love the message it carries as much as I do”. Fun fact: The song was written within five hours and recorded the next night—all within a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles. She co-wrote the song with Cameron Forbes, the man behind Tyga’s hit club-banger ‘Taste’, while production was handled by Willy Beaman, a name that has worked with the likes of Nico & Vinz, Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj.
Despite her superstar status, Faz remains endearingly down-to-earth and isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself. Case in point—at the secret preview party for the new song, she was moved to tears when the team at Universal Music Malaysia surprised her with the platinum award for her first album Fazura, and even managed a cheeky jibe at her critics saying: “This is for the girl who can’t sing”.
