You’ve seen all the glitz and glamour from the red carpet of Cannes 2017. Not forgetting the pretty sparkles worn by the stars. And of course, the film screenings have captured various topics of interests. The 70th Cannes Film Festival was nothing short of a breath-taking affair. The two weeks festival came to a close last night with the award ceremony. The jury, presided by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, also handed out the following prizes:
The grand prize Palme d’Or went to ‘The Square’ by director Ruben Östlund, which tells the story of a museum director desperate to make his gallery a success. A notable win is Sofia Coppola, who became the second woman in the festival’s history to win best director. She nabbed the award for ‘The Beguiled’, a film set in the Civil War starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. Here are the other main competition winners:

Jury Prize: Loveless – Andrey Zvyagintsev
Best Actor: You Were Never Really Here – Joaquin Phoenix
Best Actress: In the Fade – Diane Kruger
Best Screenplay: The Killing of a Sacred Deer – Yorgos Lanthimos, You Were Never Really Here – Lynne Ramsay
Camera d’Or: Jeune Femme – Léonor Sérraille
Short Film Palme d’Or: A Gentle Night – Qiu Yang
Special 70th Anniversary Award: Nicole Kidman
