BURO Spotlights: Asics Autumn/Winter 2023 Preview in Urban Yard, Bangkok

Even the rain couldn’t dampen the atmosphere at Urban Yard, Bangkok in Thailand, where Asics celebrated the preview of its Autumn/Winter 2023 collection recently. Bringing together media friends, partners and brand ambassadors across the Southeast Asia region, the exclusive preview saw the unveiling of the brand’s latest collections across its various product categories—Performance Running, Core Performance Sports, and Asics Sportstyle and Apparel.

Guests were introduced to the collections through four distinct concepts scattered around the vibrant event space, complete with engaging fringe activities. Among the prominent names in attendance include Malaysian Asics ambassador and actor Hariz Hamdan; Thai ambassadors and artistes Tay Tawan, Pon Nawasch, Toey Pongsakorn, and Neng Sarun; Australia-born Singaporean ultra-marathoner Natalie Dau; Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados; and so many more.

The Performance Running category spotlighted the brand’s legacy models that pay homage to its ‘Sound Mind, Sound Body’ philosophy, including the Gel-Cumulus 25, Gel-Kinsei Max and Gel-Kayano 30. Prior to the main preview, selected guests were also given the opportunity to wear the 30th anniversary iteration of the Asics Gel-Kayano™ series and put them to the test through the Gel-Kayano™ 30 Running Clinic. Participants followed along to guided running and stability-centric workouts in the clinic to experience the shoe’s 4D Guidance System™ that provides greater comfort and stability.

On the other hand, the Core Performance Sports category highlighted the limited-edition Gel-Resolution 9 Tennis Shoe. Designed in collaboration with high fashion house Boss for Italian Tennis Champion Matteo Berrettini, the shoe combines Asics’ advanced technology with the latter’s sleek and modern style. Other releases include the Actibreeze AW23 lineup that’s developed with improved breathability for enhanced performance, and the AW23 Nagino collection that’s crafted for women to move freely and confidently.

Finally, the latest Asics Sportstyle collection—housed within the Asics Sportstyle Café at the venue—merges form, function and fashion to present updated models of the GT-2160, Japan S ST and EX89. Reinterpreted through the lens of fashion house Cecile Bahnsen, the GT-2160 blends everyday couture elements such as hyper feminine form and embellishments with Asics’ technical expertise. Meanwhile, the JAPAN S ST builds on the iconic basketball silhouette with improved cushioning and modern properties, whereas the EX89 arrives in new colourways following its introduction last year.

“Asics is firmly rooted in the founding philosophy of ‘A Sound Mind in a Sound Body’ in a bid to improve both the body and mind through movement in sports and exercises. The new Autumn Winter 2023 collection aims to inspire all within the community to move their bodies to positively impact their mental and physical health,” said Yogesh Gandhi, Managing Director of Asics Southeast Asia.

In honour of Asics continued sustainability efforts, the brand also collaborated with Thai social activist turned artist Wishulada to create one-of-a-kind, purposeful art installations from old Asics footwear and apparel. This included the Asics logo, which was upcycled from the brand’s lowest carbon emitting shoe—Asics Gel-Lyte™ III CM 1.95.
