According to Hollywood’s insiders’ information at The Tracking Board, Warner Bros. is working on a new film about the origin of the Joker. At this point, Todd Phillips (The Hangover) is reportedly taking the director’s seat, and talks with Martin Scorsese to produce are underway.
“Phillips will write the script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver, and the aim is for The Joker to have the gritty feel of one of Scorsese’s early films, like Taxi Driver,” reads the report. “Scorsese’s participation in the project is fluid at the moment, and he’s expected to wait to read a script before deciding the extent of his involvement.”
A new actor is expected to play the Joker in the origin film, which has previously been portrayed by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto. It will be set in Gotham City during the 1980s and tell the story of how Batman’s arch-nemesis came to be.
With the success of Wonder Woman earlier this year, we’re definitely curious to see how DC’s upcoming projects will play out—play their cards right and perhaps DC will have a chance to catch up with Marvel’s success.
