How often have you watched food being prepared or savoured on screen and wished for taste or even the merest whiff of the marvelous concoction? Well, Cinema a la Carte, brought to you by the Culinary Film Festival of Kuala Lumpur (CFFKL) transports the flavours from the screen to your plate.
Believing that the pleasure and emotion a gastronomic experience elicits are akin to those evoked over the course of a good movie, Cinema a la Carte connects the two platforms of food and film for a truly unique dining experience. Six restaurants across the city will play host to a night where diners can enjoy the screening of a specially picked movie alongside a meal curated to reflect the scenes and sentiments within the film.
Our culinary cinema experience came packaged in the unlikely pairing of French fare and the robust flavours of India; which of course, happens to be the exact premise of ‘The Hundred Foot Journey’ we traversed at Nathalie’s Gourmet Studio.
For one night only, Chef Nathalie gave her renowned repertoire of French dishes an unorthodox spin—each plate appeared classically French at a glance but revealed invigorating Indian spices and elements upon closer inspection. Despite the amalgamation of cuisines so inarguably diametric, every one of the five courses (designed in relation to key plot points in the film) danced across our palates in a harmonious mélange.

Now in its second year, the 2016 edition of CCFKL has teamed up with six separate restaurants to screen six different movies; inspiring six bespoke menus to accompany the event that kicked off on October 25th and will conclude on December 8th:

Besides being a perfect channel for the sharing of cultures, proceeds from Cinema a la Carte are shared to support a charitable cause. This year, CFFKL has partnered up with The Lost Food Project to garner awareness about rescuing food surplus and redistributing it to those in need.
