Utilitarian chic: Join the chain gang

It doesn’t get cooler than this: chain links sported on jewellery pieces, bags, and part of separates on the Spring/Summer 2016 runway came to no one’s surprise, since AW’13/14 first saw the influx of oversized chunky chain-link accessories. But this time around, chain links weren’t just a one-off, accessory-centric trend, it was incorporated in ways that were edgier with streetwear and sporty nuances (chain-link straps on cropped tops at Alexander Wang), while for others it was juxtaposed with feminine details for a utilitarian-chic vibe (Cushnie et Ochs had Y-knot necklaces worn with plunging necklines).

 

Dress to impress with your chains on without veering towards jailbait territory with these apparel and accessories. The key is to not overpile your outfit with chain-link ornamentation, as one statement piece goes a long way:
