Cop or drop: All the clunky sneakers spotted on the AW18 catwalks

Ugly sneakers, dad shoes, or grandpa sneakers—call them what you want, but one thing’s for sure: they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. With throwback trends being all the rage now, it’s to no surprise that the chunky footwear—popular in the ’90s and ’00s—is being revived. From the eyebrow-raising colour combinations to the thick soles and some, given a dirty and stained finish, the orthopaedic-looking kicks may not be the most pleasing to the eyes, but ultimately, that’s what makes it cool.

A few tips on rocking a pair out and about: pair it with streamlined trousers or skinny jeans to keep things polished; juxtapose the footwear with girly mini dresses that’ll guarantee a double-take; or go full on normcore-athleisure with sweatsuits complete with ankle socks. Here’s our street style prediction this Autumn 2018: Balenciaga’s Triple S sneakers will still be a fan favourite, but Gucci will definitely be the best newcomer, thanks to its rendition that features Sega lettering and wrapped with jewels.

Below, all the sneakers spotted from the Autumn/Winter 2018 runways:
