Among the very many trending micro bags, pillow totes and structured crossbodies we’ve come to regularly see and love over the past year, Chanel debuted an unconventional silhouette that we can’t help but be baffled about at first glance. First seen at the Spring/Summer 2022 show in Paris, the Chanel 22 is a slouchy, oversized, quilted tote that feels very fluid and casual; therefore, not exactly the first few persuasive reasons if one were to splurge on a brand-new Chanel item.
The beauty, however, lies in its simplicity. Combining high savoir-faire, functionality and comfort, the Chanel 22 is a sophisticated pick for an everyday summer bag. Made from supple, yet resistant calfskin leather with a practical magnetic closure and drawstring handles, the carry-all offers ample space for more than just your regular essentials. The exterior features the House’s exclusive diamond quilting, gold-toned chain and medallion inscribed with the word Chanel Paris, and the lacquered Chanel logo towards the bottom of the bag. What makes the Chanel 22 even more alluring are the colours they come in—candy or pastel tones of purple and pink, navy, or classic black or white options. Additionally, there are four sizes available—large, medium, small, and now, a mini option—so you can choose to complement your preference, height and build accordingly.
The current Chanel 22 muses, actresses Lily-Rose Depp, Whitney Peak and Margaret Qualley lend a youthful exuberance to the campaign shot by fashion photographers Inez and Vinoodh in the stars’ own cities—Los Angeles, New York and Palm Springs. In these images, they bring the tote and backpack versions of the Chanel 22 to life.
The campaign continues to resonate with pop culture with the recent appointment of Blackpink’s Jennie as the new face of the bag, embodying the modernity of its mini edition in pink.
In its fourth instalment, the shoot is centred around the K-pop idol’s personal charm and home city, Seoul. Ahead, check out a behind-the-scenes peek of the video stills, going live on the 3rd of April.
