Uniqlo unveils its first resort collection in collaboration with Tomas Maier

Your summer wardrobe this coming season is sorted thanks to Uniqlo’s collaboration with Tomas Maier, the German fashion maestro who is also the creative director of Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta and his own namesake brand. The Japanese fast fashion retailer recently unveiled its first ever resort collection in Tokyo, Japan, and we caught a glimpse of the one-of-a-kind collection that’s marking a new territory for both Uniqlo and Maier.

Breathing new life to Uniqlo’s LifeWear range this summer, this range boasts 51 pieces for women and men in a myriad of head-turning hues of marigold, red, lilac, and seafoam blue — imbued with a sense of ease and multifunctionality that is in line with Maier’s philosophy. “Our new collection is designed to work in many different ways. Beach attire can turn into lounge wear, casual cover-ups paired with polo shirts can easily be worn in town — this is the concept of my brand,” says Maier. “Things work in many ways. Even if bought for a special trip or occasion the customer will soon discover these garments adapt to a year-round life.”

Inspired by the Sunshine State in the USA — Florida, where Tomas Maier is founded — the clothes take on an equally sunny disposition. Apart from the very summer-worthy colour palette, Maier’s iconic palm tree motif makes a recurring appearance in the form of T-shirts and swim shorts. Speaking of swimwear, take your pick from a slew of choices including of palm tree-printed bikinis, two-toned swim tops/bottoms and even a colour-block rash guard that is chic enough to be worn as a top (paired with terrycloth shorts from the same collection? Yes please.)

Balmy chiffon dresses and swim stoles serve as cover-up options, and lest the temperatures take a dip in the night time (or if you’re venturing into the city for dinner), opt for “summer knits” made of 100% cashmere and polo tops to change in to. For men, keeping cool while looking beach-ready is easy breezy with jackets made from AIRism, Supima cotton T-shirts and easy pants that double as smart swimwear.
