After months of celebrating the film world, the 76th edition of the annual Tony Awards kicked off on Sunday (11 June, 8pm EST) at the United Palace in New York City, shifting the spotlight to Broadway’s brightest talents and best productions. In true Broadway star fashion, nominees and esteemed guests turned the red carpet into a fabulous stage, where they stole the show with their glamorous ensembles.
Jessica Chastain, who was nominated for best lead actress for her role in A Doll’s House, graced the carpet in a sunshine yellow Gucci caped gown, paired with a diamond necklace that beautifully complemented her bright dress. Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o rocked a sleek power suit with a custom silver breastplate by Pakistani artist and designer Misha Japanwala, who created the piece from a mold of the actress’ own body.
Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was spotted on the carpet as well, wearing a glitzy gold haute couture dress by Valentino. Never one to shy away from daring choices, renowned theater producer Jordan Roth showed up in a head-turning hooded red dress by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, completed with a matching whip. On the other hand, the ever-talented Stephanie Hsu went for a classic look, wearing a gorgeous black gown by Markarian, along with a pair of dazzling diamond-embellished freshwater pearl earrings by Mindi Mond New York.
Best believe the evening’s leading men didn’t disappoint either, with Broadway star Jordan Cooper stealing the show with his immaculate brown leather Off-White suit, while multihyphenate Utkarsh Ambudkar’s magnificent tweed suit by Atelier Cillian and bedazzled statement turntable bag by Judith Leiber had all eyes on him. Elsewhere, actor Antwayn Hopper looked as stylish as ever in a green checkered ensemble, finished with matching gloves and a black and white checkered bag.
