Goodbye, Sussex Royals: Meghan Markle’s best style moments

As Prince Harry and and Meghan Markle say goodbye to their Sussex Royals Instagram account with one last post, this also marks their final day as senior members of the royal family and will no longer be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. But before that, we’re recapping the royal’s best style moments that made her one of the most influential style icons since she first went public with Prince Harry back in 2017. Modern yet minimal, her approach to royal dressing is undoubtedly refreshing, so was her maternity style that was elegant and polished.

Below, some of the style lessons we can all learn from Meghan Markle:

#1 Understand your body shape

Dressing a straight or ruler body shape may be tricky for some, but Meghan Markle has got that down pat. The royal usually opts for fit-and-flare silhouettes or belts that cinch the waist (trench and shirtdresses are her usual go-tos), but for more formal occasions, you can count on her to step things up with oh-so-chic gowns that accentuate her figure, be it a halter-neck Stella McCartney gown she wore for her wedding reception, the blue cape dress from Safiyaa, or the one-shoulder Givenchy number that flatters her broad shoulders.

#2 Monochrome is the way to go

The British royals—including Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton—are no stranger to monochrome dressing, but Meghan Markle’s has got to be our favourite. From prior to her engagement to Prince Harry to her last official royal appearance, the brunette beauty loved stepping out in the same colour head-to-toe, and no matter how tricky the hue is, she still manages to pull it off in the most elegant way possible. We love it when she incorporates different textures into one look for added interest.

#3 Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone

That being said, the royal is also not afraid to take risks once in a while by opting for silhouettes, prints, and colour combos that we’re not necessarily used to seeing her in, such as the striped Martin Grant maxi dress she wore during the South African royal tour, the red-purple-and-brown get-up she wore while visiting Birkenhead, and the Alexander McQueen bird tulle gown at the Australian Geographic Society Awards.

#4 When in doubt, wear pants

Although the royal is usually spotted in prim and proper dresses during her royal engagements, once in a while, she steps out in sartorial trousers looks that are equally—if not more—chic. Cue the all-black pantsuit look (the square-neck satin top gives it a trendier touch), her blazer-and-jeans outfit topped off with a fedora, and the flared jumpsuit that radiates effortless ease. Her trouser ensemble are honestly some of our most favourite look of hers.
