Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli to exit Calvin Klein

After more than a decade at Calvin Klein Collection, creative directors for womenswear and menswear Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli are exiting the company as part of its new global creative strategy to unify all the Calvin Klein brands under one creative vision.

“This creative strategy marks the beginning of another significant chapter in Calvin Klein’s brand legacy since Mr. Klein’s retirement,” says chief executive Steve Shiffman. “I would like to thank Francisco and Italo for their unwavering commitment to the Calvin Klein brand and their accomplishments over the past decade. They have both contributed immensely to making Calvin Klein a global leader in the fashion industry, and they have done so with dedication, focus and creativity.”

While the rumour mill is putting Raf Simons as frontrunner, any likely appointment for the former Dior creative director will wait until August as a binding agreement states that Simons will only be able to join another company after the agreement expires in July, according to WWD. Calvin Klein Collection has stated that the company’s in-house design teams will be at the helm of each line for now, and sales and press presentations for SS17 collections will replace the men’s and women’s shows this June and September.

Costa joined Calvin Klein Collection in 2001 after working as a design assistant for Tom Ford under Gucci. He then became the women’s director in 2003 when the company’s founder and former creative director Calvin Klein retired. Zucchelli previously was at Jil Sander’s menswear before he joined as creative director of menswear at Calvin Klein in 2004.
