Music awards are our favourite for several reasons. A night of spectacular performances aside, as the event isn’t as formal as its film counterparts, stars usually have more fun with their red carpet looks. The floor-grazing gowns are swapped for leg-baring mini dresses, and then there are the iconics such as Cindy Crawford’s bondage-inspired Versace outfit in 1992, Lil’ Kim’s purple pasty look in 1999 and Lady Gaga’s meat dress in 2010. Every year the MTV VMAs bring out the top stars in music, so we expect nothing less from this year’s Video Music Awards hosted by American standup comedian Sebastian Maniscalco.
Taylor Swift, who’s nominated for 10 whopping awards this year made an appearance in a colourful embellished ensemble from Versace—a bolder step-up from all the sweet rainbow frocks she’s been spotted in over the past few months. It was a family affair for the Hadids and Jonas’s tonight, as Bella and Gigi turned up in matching neutral-coloured ensemble, while Kevin, Joe, and Nick stuck to fail-proof dark hues. Feathers seemed to be the detail du jour tonight, as Lizzo, Blac Chyna, and Lil’ Kim walked down the red carpet in bold and bright numbers.
