Adidas’ Superstar turns 45 in style

Adidas has been on a little bit of a roll lately. The German sporting goods firm reported a loss at the end of 2014 but in true fighting spirit have already seen a net income advancement of 10.4 percent in Q3 this year. Their collaborations with Rita Ora, Pharrell Williams and Raf Simons have been hitting all the right notes, and their iconic Stan Smith and Superstar styles have seen a massive resurgence, popular with sneakerheads and fashion cognoscenti alike. In celebration of the Originals Superstar’s 45th birthday, adidas has crafted a limited edition run of 45 pairs made from what they’re calling Futurecraft Leather.

Futurecraft Leather provides flexibility, support and comfort in one single piece of leather

The result of a collaboration between adidas, industrial designer Alexander Taylor and shoe designer Joachim de Callatay, Futurecraft Leather uses a technique usually applied to metal, polymer and resin components in industrial manufacturing. This digital milling process gently strips away at a single piece of leather: the seamless leather upper providing enhanced flexibility and stability. 45 pairs of these limited edition sneakers go up for sale on November 7th at Dover Street Market in New York, London and Tokyo.
