7 Most iconic celebrity birthday looks of all time

1.     Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday

Fact: You can never think of an iconic birthday look without having Paris Hilton’s chainmail dress come to mind. The backless number features a cowl-neck neckline and side slits that go up to the hips. Fast forward 14 years, Kendall Jenner took inspiration from the OG It-girl and wore an almost identical piece for her 21st birthday party. While Paris’ piece is by Julien Macdonald, the supermodel’s version is by LaBourjoisie, and is covered with USD$9000 worth of Swarovski crystals. Who do you think wore it better?

2.     Gigi Hadid’s 23rd birthday

Also on the metallic mini dress bandwagon, is fellow It-girl Gigi Hadid, who stunned in a sculptured and figure-accentuating Versace dress for her golden-year themed 23rd birthday. Aside from the pair of transparent heels from Christian Louboutin, Gigi accessorised her look with dainty rings and gold diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz, complete with statement-making gold eyeshadow on her lids. Ladies, if you need some tips on how to rock a colour from head-to-toe, this will be it.

3.     Rihanna’s 30th birthday

You can count on Rihanna to pull off the most daring of looks for any occasion, and for her birthday, it’s no different. To ring in her 30th birthday earlier this year, the pop superstar held a private soirée in New York and showed up in a voluminous look from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2018 collection. The puffy fuchsia bodice is juxtaposed with a body-hugging black skirt at the bottom, radiating a playful vibe. While she definitely could’ve pulled off the full runway look that included fluffy feather boots, Rihanna decided to opt for metallic lace-up heels instead for a more luxe finish. Her jewellery of choice? A pair of diamond-and-ruby earrings, and blingy bracelets on both wrists.

4.     Bianca Jagger’s 27th birthday

When it comes to the most OTT birthday celebrations of all time, Bianca Jagger’s 27th party might just be one of them. A style icon on her own, she donned a simple off-shoulder dress by Halston with a plain choker for the party, but it was her other accessory—a horse—that made headlines. The owner of Studio 54 (aka the hottest club in New York at the time), Steve Rubell, surprised her with a white horse at the entrance before she was led to the dance floor and partied the night away.

5.     Kate Moss’ 17th birthday

Aside from her modelling prowess, supermodel Kate Moss is also known for her love for a good party, and along with it, are her soirée looks that can be eyebrow-raising to some. Case in point: For her 17th birthday back in 1991, the supermodel celebrated her birthday in London in a traditional cheongsam dress with magenta flower accents, complete with a red top-handle bag and a messy bun. Spot her then-boyfriend, actor Johnny Depp in the background.

6.     Kris Jenner’s 60th Birthday

For Kris Jenner’s 60th birthday two years back, the Kardashian clan came together and threw their ‘momager’ a Great Gatsby-themed celebration that’s estimated to cost USD$2 million. The star-studded bash saw celebrity couples such as Will and Jada Smith, and Chrissy Teigen and John Legend in attendance, but the most talked about aspect of the night, is what the family wore. Kylie, for instance, wore a Yousef Al-Jasmi gown that’s covered in more than 400,000 Swarovski crystals. While Kris opted for a plain white gown, her accessories, in the form of a fur shawl and diamond jewellery did the talking.

7.     Marilyn Monroe (President John F. Kennedy’s 45th birthday)

While this birthday look may not be worn on her own birthday, when it comes to the most iconic celebration looks, Marilyn Monroe’s sequinned look at John F. Kennedy’s celebration will definitely be on the list. For the event in Madison Square Garden, the blonde bombshell serenaded the former president in front of 15,000 guests in a dress that was exclusively designed by Jean Louis. It was embellished with over 2,500 hand-sewn crystals and 6,000 shimmering rhinestones, and costed the singer USD$1,440 at the time. The gown was reportedly so form-fitting that Marilyn had to be sewn into it prior to the event. In 2016, the dress was sold to the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum for a whopping USD$4.8 million.
