As the latest premier shopping destination in town, The Exchange TRX has swiftly emerged as a prominent hotspot for fashion and leisure, garnering significant attention within just a couple of months after its launch. Among its establishments is the grand new Chanel boutique, spanning 500 square metres, dedicated to the Maison’s latest ready-to-wear collection, newly released handbags and shoes, along with a selection of timepieces, fine jewellery, and more. Here’s what you can expect inside this vibrant boutique.
The concept
For this grand undertaking, Chanel enlisted the expertise of long-time collaborator Peter Marino, a New York-based architect renowned for integrating art into his spaces. Capturing the allure and timelessness of the Maison, Chanel’s House codes are exquisitely displayed throughout the store. True to the brand’s aesthetic, the interior is predominantly white and black, reflecting Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite colour combination. Locally sourced wenge wood and silver-grey travertine flooring provide a backdrop against luxurious wall finishes—including bespoke, hand-applied plaster and lacquer panels—to offer distinct texture. Moreover, modern art pieces personally selected by Marino himself adorn the store in different places.
The space
Upon entering the boutique from inside the mall, where a doorman awaits, you’ll immediately step into a spacious room dedicated to showcasing an array of handbags, including the iconic 11.12 and 2.55 designs alongside seasonal novelties. You’ll also find a selection of watches and fine jewellery, such as the J12, Première, and Boy.Friend, along with pieces from collections like Coco Crush, N°5, Comète, and Camélia. Adjacent to this room, another spacious area displays small leather goods, costume jewellery, and eyewear, all elegantly presented in glossy black and white display cabinets.
Venturing further into the store, you’ll see the shoe salon immersing you in Chanel’s world of footwear. Here, shoppers can explore the House’s signature styles, which include the signature two-tone slingbacks and ballerina shoes, as well as new releases from the SS24 pre-collection. Adorning the wall is an embellished brass and silver glass mirror designed by the duo Curtis Jeré.
The goods
If you’re in search of ready-to-wear pieces, you’ll discover two lavish rooms dedicated to this category. Furnished with tweed sofas and custom hand-woven carpets, these spaces evoke the cosy yet glamorous ambience of Gabrielle Chanel’s renowned apartment at 31 rue Cambon in Paris. Moreover, carefully curated artworks and furniture, such as a glazed stoneware round table by sculptor Johan Creten, add an elevated touch to the environment.
The fitting rooms—bright and inviting—feature paintings by Japanese artist Kimiko Fujimura and London-based painter Alastair Gordon, creating a sense of comfort and intimacy. Here, shoppers are encouraged to take their time exploring the latest SS24 pre-collection. Inspired by French actress and House ambassador Rebecca Marder, these pieces offer versatility for mixing and matching; from suits and jeans to masculine-cut jackets and men’s boxer shorts, the multifaceted collection finds richness and balance in its diverse inspirations.
