Ben’s Bag Edit: 7 Designer bags to treat dad this Father’s Day

This month’s instalment of Ben’s Bag Edit is dedicated to all the fathers out there. Fashion, after all, is all about pushing boundaries, and I firmly believe that men can confidently own and style handbags too! With Father’s Day just around the corner, there’s no better time to give him a stylish bag to kickstart his collection than now. From a Louis Vuitton sling bag to a Versace briefcase, here are seven designer bags that he will treasure and carry all year long.

Berluti Journalier Leather Messenger

“If you didn’t know, Berluti has a boutique in Suria KLCC, and I had the opportunity to discover their SS24 collection last month. Among all the offerings, the Journalier Leather Messenger bag stood out to me for a couple of reasons. First, it comes in red, which has become a popular shade right now, and the French brand perfects it with an ombre effect. The placement of the zipped front pocket is also unique and practical for keeping small items when you’re on the go.”

Gucci Horsebit 1955

“I was drawn to the Gucci Horsebit 1995 shoulder bag when I saw Xiao Zhan wearing it in the latest Gucci campaign. Aside from the Horsebit accents and the sturdy silhouette, what made this bag appealing to me was the GG supreme canvas that complemented the brown leather trim, lending it an undeniable unisex charm. Additionally, I like how it’s finished with a unique mechanism that allows you to change the shoulder strap’s length, which enables more styling choices.”

Versace Cargo briefcase

“Versace might not be the first brand that comes to mind for briefcases, but if you’re on the lookout for one, the Cargo briefcase is a must-have. I saw a similar model in their boutique last year, crafted from the same high-quality calf leather, and was instantly delighted. The outer pockets are incredibly convenient, with enough room for all your necessities. What’s more, you can wear it on your shoulder thanks to its detachable shoulder strap.”

Dior Saddle Backpack

“I’ve noticed that most men prefer backpacks for their office needs. In case you belong to that group and require a replacement, the Saddle backpack by Dior is an excellent pick. I like this bag because of the beautiful contrast between the black and beige Dior Oblique jacquard and the black-grained leather trim. Its lofty silhouette not only creates an impression of spaciousness but also enhances its aesthetic. Plus point would be the Saddle flap pocket, which can house essentials such as your wallet, keys, headphones, or phone.”

Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Camera bag

“I spotted Bottega Veneta’s camera bag at the official launch of their store at The Exchange TRX earlier this year, and it has remained on my wish list ever since. However, it wasn’t until recently I learned that it’s available in a few styles, like the Intrecciato version. Unlike the Loop camera bag, this one sports a wider strap and a more streamlined form. The colour options are impressive too, with choices ranging from dark green to navy blue and light grey.”

Louis Vuitton Avenue Slingbag PM

“While I’m not a huge fan of this type of crossbody bag, I can see why it’s popular, especially among streetwear enthusiasts. The Avenue Slingbag PM by Louis Vuitton is a great option since it has two separate sections and an internal pocket in the main compartment, perfect for organising your stuff. The adjustable strap makes styling effortless too as it allows you to wear it comfortably on your chest or loosely around your waist.”

Fendi Baguette Soft Trunk

“If you’re seeking a statement piece, I highly recommend a trunk-shaped bag like the Baguette Soft Trunk by Fendi. I find the silhouette exudes masculinity, and I admire how it’s further amplified by the black leather embellished with a striped FF motif. The best part? It features six card holder slots inside, all crafted from tone-on-tone.”
