Classic meets fun: The Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo collaboration

Following the success of their first collaborative collection in 2016, Salvatore Ferragamo and Sara Battaglia team up for another second collaboration. The capsule collection, the Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo Pre-fall 2017 plays on the idea of juxtaposition; quirkiness with complex craftsmanship, geometric patterning with curvaceous forms, and linking heritage to modernity.

The women’s leather product director for Salvatore Ferragamo, James Ferragamo says, “We are delighted to be presenting this new capsule collection with Sara Battaglia.” He adds, “The success of last year’s collaboration is testament to the principles we and Sara share, and having been keen to explore new ways to push craftsmanship and innovation, this second collection feels even more daring in its vibrancy, quality and contemporary spirit.” Featuring six models in an assortment of styles, Battaglia gives the Italian house’s classic motif—the zigzag—her own spin, providing fresh attitude, femininity and Italian spirit.

From Salvatore’s own design repertoire through the current collection, the geometric icon has long been the House’s hallmark. Presented in both graphic black and white and “muted winter rainbow” tones, the zig zag becomes the vertical patchwork that forms the entire body of the totes and flapbags. Additionally, a range of fur charms with zig zag motif has been designed to attach to any bag, highlighting Battaglia’s exuberant design sensibility. The bags also feature the House’s signature ‘Gancio’ emblem, which is extended into an oversized metal handle of the bucket bag.

“I’m excited and honoured to be collaborating once again with the House of Salvatore Ferragamo,” says Battaglia. “I consider this collection to be the confirmation of our shared values, our similar creative mindset, and our collective commitment to quality craftsmanship and the notion of Made in Italy.”
