On our wishlist: Givenchy x Onitsuka Tiger sneakers

It was a surprising day for Givenchy fans and Onitsuka Tiger fans alike when the two revealed an unexpected collaboration during Givenchy Men’s Spring/Summer 2020 show during the Pitti Uomo tradeshow in Florence. The move is a first for both the French luxury house and the Japanese sneaker brand. This long-term partnership marks the first time Givenchy has ever collaborated with a sneaker company on a global scale and Onitsuka Tiger’s first venture nto a luxury fashion house.

You may already recognise the silhouette of the new sneaker, it is the classic Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 heritage style which made its debut at the 1968 Olympic games pre-trials in Mexico. The original was made from premium white leather, stitched with red and blue tiger stripes. The collaboration with Givenchy sees a simpler colourway with an all-white version with the brand’s hallmark dynamic ‘Onitsuka Tiger stripe’ lines and ‘Givenchy’ lettering, and a black version with signature Givenchy details in red and white. Both styles feature a back tab bearing the dual inscription ‘Givenchy – Onitsuka Tiger’. Chic and sleek, they’re definitely a breath of fresh air after seasons of the chunky sneaker trend.
