Fashion buzz: A Yeezy Gap line is happening, BTS’ Jungkook sells out a Prada jacket in more than 25 countries, and more

Introducing: Yeezy Gap

Kanye West has struck a 10-year deal with Gap. As the American retailer recorded a 50 per cent sales loss in the first quarter of 2020, the partnership could definitely be a game-changer for the brand. Mark Breitbard, Global Head of Gap brand, says in a statement: “We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his Yeezy brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,” noting that the American mogul used to work in the brand’s Chicago store in his teens. The co-branded collection—which will feature “modern, elevated basics for men, women, and kids at accessible price points”—is expected to launch in 2021.

There’s no doubt that Jungkook is one of the most popular members in BTS, but lo and behold—the ‘Jungkook effect’ takes it to a whole new level. Back in May, the 22-year-old wore a pair of Prada combat boots during a live broadcast, and it didn’t take too long for fans (aka the ARMYs) to identify the brand—and to snap up the same pair. The boots were sold out within a day. Fast forward one month later, the ‘Jungkook effect’ strikes again when Vogue Japan released a 17-second teaser for their August issue featuring the boy band. The colour-block jacket—also by Prada—worn by Jungkook was out of stock on Prada’s website in over 25 countries not long after the video was uploaded.
