6 Ways to amp up your party look—if you only wear black and white

Turn up the volume

If colours are off limits, silhouettes are the way to go. Supersize your look with voluminous shapes that are as statement-making as they are trendy, from puffy shoulders to XL flares. The trick is to keep the rest of your outfit streamlined to enhance your curves.

Smart tailoring

When it comes to dressing up, pantsuits are fail-proof. But instead of a blazer-trousers look, tone down the formal attire by injecting some fun and trendy details into the get-up. For example, look 2’s cowboy hat, look 4 and 7’s biker shorts, and look 5’s tube top—it’s that simple! Alternatively, you can give your dresses that bit more structure with a tailored jacket. After all, it’s all about mix and matching.

Leather up

Different materials come and go, but leather will always have a special place in our heart. You can always count on the fabric to inject some edge into the simplest of outfits, and the ladies above are proof. Pair your leather bottoms with a plain white T-shirt (as seen in look 1 and 4) and you’re good to go. If you’d like to rock the material head-to-toe, go for a fitted silhouette such as a pantsuit in look 5 or a dress in look 7 for a polished finish.

Go midi

Forget the LBDs—we’re reaching new length this holiday season by opting for a longer silhouette to maximise the feminine allure. Regardless of the style, there’s just something about how the midi numbers beautifully sway with the wind that we can’t get enough of. Not to mention, they’re oh-so-comfortable too. Instead of ankle-strap heels, switch things up with a pair of booties—in contrasting hues—for a trendy finish. Look 1 and 4’s layering game is definitely one we’d love to emulate.

Flaunt some skin

There’s no better time to show off some skin than the year-end celebrations, but if you’re not in the mood for flaunting too much, take a style cue from these street style stars for your next night out. Whether it’s a slither of bare décolletage, toned midriff or shoulder blades, choose a body part you’re most confident with and show. It. Off. Dare to bare? The see-through dresses in look 3 and 5 are bold options, and you’ll be turning heads (for all the right reasons), for sure.

Stick to the classics

Do not underestimate the power of prints—when it comes to patterns, the classics are always the best. Polka-dots, for instance, add that slight retro glam to any look, especially in the form of a midi dress. Alternatively, a jumpsuit gives off a more modern vibe. Tip: Avoid looking frumpy with a swath of skin to help break up a print-heavy ensemble. If you’d like to take things further, rock two prints (à la look 3) for that added interest—when it comes to these motifs, any combination goes. We like how look 5 juxtaposed the feminine frock with a pair of chunky sneakers, and the cat-eye sunglasses shading her peepers is a trend we still can’t get enough of.
