
Made for flaunting: Balenciaga's SS18 accessories collection
Kitschy appeal

For Spring 2018, creative director Demna Gvasalia wanted the steer the brand away from the Cristóbal homages and focus more on his own aesthetic, and he definitely succeeded. From workwear separates to sporty numbers, the collection sees a myriad of styles, but the looks had one thing in common: they were complemented with accessories that gave Balenciaga that cult-status appeal. Gvasalia's sense of humour—that struck the right balance between chic and provocative—was translated into kitschy pieces that are double-take worthy. Case in point: the souvenir-shop charms and cups that were made into belts and cuffs respectively; Euro notes and picturesque screen-saver prints on boots and bags; and dangerously spiky heels that'll give the simplest of outfits that don't-mess finish. The platform Crocs (that sold out before they were officially released) aside, here are all the eye-catching accessories that will be making their way into everyone's wardrobe:
