Arm candy of the week: Bottega Veneta’s The Lauren 1980 clutch

If you’ve watched the 1980 film American Gigolo starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton, you’ll definitely remember the accessory that was spotted throughout—the red clutch by Bottega Veneta. Originally designed for the model-turned-actress in the movie, the iconic piece made its reappearance during the brand’s Spring/Summer 2017 show to coincide with its 50th Anniversary. The 74-year-old star surprised everyone by strutting down the runway carrying the exact same clutch—culled from the archives—in the (aptly named) Gigolo Red hue. Soon after, the Italian fashion house launched a re-edition of the bag named The Lauren 1980, and it’s slowly climbing up the It-list. Striking the right balance between classic and modern, the bag has since been reintroduced in an array of colours—the latest being a two-tone Intrecciato Checker pattern for Autumn/Winter 2018. Made from nappa leather, the oversized clutch features a magnetic flap closure, and suede lining and a zipped pocket in its interior.
