The iconic calendar returns in anticipation of 2017 with a star-studded cast. With Peter Lindbergh behind the lens, Hollywood’s beloved kept the clothes on their backs but bared it all for the camera with barely a smear of makeup on their skin.
The stripped back shoot was “a cry against the terror of perfection and youth” according to the famed photographer who has also helmed the 1996 and 2002 editions. “Beauty speaks about individuality, courage to be yourself, and your very own sensibility. That’s the goal of the calendar—to show the woman and not this stretched, manipulated, emptied [person] you see in the magazines today,” says Lindbergh.
A stark contrast from the risqué imagery of the past issues, the 2017 Pirelli Calendar is a collection of striking black-and-white portraits highlighting the raw beauty of “the best actresses in the world, who have something to say.”
This year’s photographic publication features silver screen darlings, Helen Mirren, Charlotte Rampling, Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, Jessica Chastain, and Zhang Ziyi, alongside new faces like Lupita Nyong’o, Rooney Mara, Léa Seydoux and Alicia Vikander. An additional face belonging to the sole non-actor is Anastasia Ignatova, a professor of political theory at Moscow State University and daughter-in-law of Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, and partner of Pirelli Tyre Russia.
