6 – 15 January, Rethinking Editions @ OUR ArtProjects, The Zhongshan Building
Rethinking Editions features 15 visual artists from various backgrounds and practices, presenting art that has revisited or questioned the notion of ‘editions’. “Juxtaposing the idea of editions to the seemingly dynamic and responsive flow of visual arts seems akin to rule-making on creative expressions,” says independent curator Sharmin Parameswaran. “Especially in today’s hyper-digital context, where reproduced Instagram posts, memes, and GIFs are imitated, mashed, and shared into the instantaneity of digital, social, and cultural networks.” Featured artists include Ajim Juxta, Mark Tan, Rico Leong, Syahnan Anuar and Tsa Meera with Talha KK.

12 January, Haiku in Photographic Expressions – A Mini Workshop @ Ilham Gallery
Learn how to create visual poetry with your photographs. You’ll be guided to put together a mini-photo series which may be influenced by haikus or poems referencing the peaks of Mount Fuji and Mount Kinabalu. The workshop is led by Stacy Liu and Nadirah—both featured photographers in the ongoing Two Mountains Photography Project exhibition.

A devised physical theatre play about longing and acceptance, In/Out is a story of a girl who experiences the world in a unique way, exploring what it feels like to be included and excluded just for being the person you are. It is Ho Lee Ching’s second directorial work after her sold out production of OCD in 2018.

Now on till 15 January 2019, Trincomalee – My Father’s Stories and the Lost Photographs @ Shalini Ganendra Advisory
Recently acquired for the private collection of the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C., Trincomalee by award-winning fine artist and photographer Liz Fernando puts the spotlight on lost images reconstructed from Sri Lanka’s collective memory and oral histories relayed to the artist by her father. This exhibition highlights the creation and deconstruction of an unfolding narrative that exposes the fragility of memories while exploring the concept of nostalgia.

A joint photography project by Steven Lee of KLPA Events and Klee, Inc Paris Tokyo’s Naoko Ohta, Two Mountains features personal photo-stories about two iconic peaks: Mount Fuji in Japan and Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. Discover the legends, folklore and traditions of the mountains through the eyes of three selected photographers from each country.

Now on till 28 February 2019, GWKL: Experiencing Pudu Jail’s Graffiti @ Badan Warisan Malaysia Gallery Space (closed on Sundays and public holidays)
Part of the Gallery Weekend Kuala Lumpur 2018 programme, this exhibition by Dr. K Azril Ismail features images taken in 2002-03 of graffiti within the old Pudu Jail. Get a glimpse of the prisoners’ etched narratives onto the walls and join in the discourse about the process of the graffiti—was it art, or was it cumulative of cultural languages? There will be a ‘meet the artist’ session on 12 January.
