‘The Umbrella Academy’: Here’s what you should know about the second season—including the premiere date on Netflix

Update (8 July 2020):

The official trailer for Season Two has arrived! The three-minute trailer (watch above) features Here Comes The End, an original song by Gerard Way. We have also received the synopsis of the sophomore season of The Umbrella Academy.

Beginning in the 1960s after the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas (over a three year period), the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. Would this have happened if everyone listened to Five when he warned his family that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky? The group’s disruption of the timeline has brought upon the aforementioned nuclear doomsday and Five (the last to land) found himself in the middle of it all.

Oh, the addition of ruthless Swedish assassins definitely makes the situation way more complicated for the siblings.

When The Umbrella Academy was first released on Netflix in February 2019, the show became an instant hit—garnering positive reviews and major fanfare. The superhero web programme is based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way (you know him as the frontman of My Chemical Romance) with Dark Horse Comics.

The 10-episode inaugural season comprised of a massive cast—including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, John Magaro, Adam Godley, Colm Feore, and Kate Walsh.

Created by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, The Umbrella Academy revolves around the children who were adopted by billionaire Reginald Hargreaves. The premise follows them (as part of the Umbrella Academy) and their attempts to save the world. The first season ended with a bang. Literally. So, what can we expect from the next chapter?

In addition to that, three new actors have been added to the show for the second season. The Umbrella Academy‘s sophomore outing will see Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, and Marin Ireland joining the returning cast members. Ritu Arya (from Humans) will play Lila whereas Yusuf Gatewood (from Good Omens) will star as Raymond. Sissy will be played by Marin Ireland from the upcoming FX series, Y.

Season Two of The Umbrella Academy will consist of 10 episodes and Steve Blackman will return as showrunner. New character posters were released on the show’s Twitter account on 28 May 2020—showcasing the Hargreaves in individual posters (each holding the same black umbrella). The posters were unveiled in the following Hargreaves order: Six, Four, Three, One, Two, Seven, and Five. Does that meaning anything? Time to come forward with your theories!
