Oscar nominations 2023: The full list of nominees
The Oscar race begins

After the string of historic wins at the Golden Globe Awards in early January, the anticipation for the 95th Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) only continues to grow. Will Michelle Yeoh nab her first-ever golden statue for Best Actress? Which film will win Best Picture?
The nominees for the 2023 Academy Awards were announced on 24 January—some were predictable whilst others were surprising. The Asian-led action film Everything Everywhere All at Once is currently a critics-favourite and leads with a whopping 11 Oscar nominations, signifying an already huge win for Asian representation in Hollywood. Following closely behind are The Banshees of Inisherin, a dark Irish comedy, and All Quiet on the Western Front, a World War I epic, with nine nominations each.
For the acting categories, it will be a stunning race as the nominations see several comeback actors pitted against Hollywood staples. Namely, former action star Brendan Fraser had a remarkable year in 2022 as he returned to the big screen after years of personal setbacks and health issues for a transformative role in The Whale. He is nominated for Best Actor and interestingly, all four other nominees such as Austin Butler and Collin Farrell are first-time nominees as well. Likewise, Ke Huy Quan who was best known as the child actor in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom earned himself a best supporting actor nomination for Everything Everywhere.
All eyes will also be on the Best Actress category as eight-time nominee Cate Blanchett is up against the likes of Ana De Armas, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh. Notably, some of the most heralded performances of 2022 failed to make the final list of nominees such as Viola Davis for The Woman King and Babylon’s Brad Pitt. Meanwhile, Stephanie Hsu has earned her first Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for Everything Everywhere after losing it to co-star Jamie Lee Curtis at the Golden Globes. Now, both are nominated for the Oscars.
The 95th Oscars will be held on 12 March 2023 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Popular late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will return in his third stint to host the Oscars. The live broadcast will also televise the full 23 categories of winners, after last year’s decision to cut out eight awards in an effort to reduce the award show’s long run time was met with criticism from famed Hollywood directors Guillermo del Toro, Denis Villeneuve, Steven Spielberg, and more.
