Podcasts on personal finance that won’t put you to sleep

At least that’s the goal, anyway. I’m not really one for resolutions, but one of the things I’ve been putting off for too long now (story of my life) is learning how to better manage my finances. Sure, I try to save a fixed amount of money each month, but that’s it—what I do (barely) manage to save is just… sitting there. At the rate I’m going, it looks like financial indepence will remain a distant dream for quite some time.

So I went scouring the net for interesting podcasts on personal finance—let’s face it: it’s not the most exciting subject—to help me get money smart, and here’s a list to show for it. Whether you’re a finance newbie or seasoned investor, there is probably a thing or two to be learned from these podcasts that will help you get your money in order:

The Stacking Benjamins Show

Listen to this for… informative and entertaining exchanges on personal finance between Joe Saul-Sehy and OG (“The Other Guy”) at the card table in Joe’s mum’s half-finished basement. Fast-paced and easy to listen to, the show pans out in a magazine-style format, covering headlines, a main story and listener questions every episode.

Start with… You Can Be A Badass in 2019. In this episode, guest Jen Sincero teaches us how to kick off the new year by bringing out the best in ourselves and our wallet.

Planet Money

Listen to this for… easy access to the economy through interesting stories. So Planet Money is not so much on personal finance as it is on the economy, but it sure is a fun way to learn about the bigger picture, which in turn may just help boost your own financial power.

Start with… #539: What’s A Penny Worth? Believe it or not, you can actually come across something that costs just 2 cents in Manhattan. Maybe you’ll think twice before you brush off a penny on the sidewalk the next time.

We Study Billionaires

Listen to this if… you’re looking to get into investing. The hosts deep-dive into the minds and practices of top investors like Warren Buffett and Ray Dalio so you come away with insightful tips for your stock market ventures.

Start with… Tip 001: Warrant Buffett Investing Basics. What better way to get acquainted with the subject than getting behind the investing approach of one of the most successful investors of all time?

Ringgit and Sense

Listen to this for… a local take on personal finance. BFM’s Ringgit and Sense covers a wide spectrum of finance topics, discussing everything from personal risk profiles and personal finance products to retirement planning with personalities from the local finance and business sectors.

Start with… Investing In Gold. Thinking about diversifying your financial portfolio by investing in gold? Is it possible to go wrong with gold? Robert Foo of MyFP Services sheds light on the benefits and drawbacks.

ChooseFI

Listen to this for… actionable tips on how to speed up the process of reaching financial independence, especially if you are set on joining the FIRE (financial independence, retire early) movement.

Start with… #70: Your Money Or Your Life. This episode’s guest is author and FI pioneer Vicki Robin, who discusses the very real issue of overconsumption and shares what contributes to successful financial independence.
