3 Woody men's fragrances to own this season
A walk in the forest
Fans of Calvin Klein's Obsession will be delighted for the latest fragrance range under creative director Raf Simons. The new Obsessed fragrance takes inspiration from its predecessor, but is reinvented with a play on traditional feminine/masculine ingredients. Obsessed For Men is an oriental woody scent that has hints of black vanilla for a nuanced experience. Top notes include Sichuan pepper, black cardamom, and grapefruit; while at its heart is a heady combination of cedar leaves, labdanum, and leather. The fragrance dries down to patchouli, black vanilla, and ambrox for an edgy yet contemporary touch. Want something that isn't your everyday cologne? This is your new signature.
If you're partial to the smell of nature, Aesop Hwyl Eau de Parfum is made just for you. Inspired by the verdancy of a Japanese forest, the fragrance was formulated in collaboration with French perfumer Barnabé Fillion. Hwyl EDP opens with enticing smoky notes of aromatic spices and fresh thyme extract, building up to a warm base of cypress and leaving a sensual finish of vetiver extract, frankincense and moss. "My inspiration for Hwyl Eau de Parfum was sparked by walking amongst the remarkable 300-year- old Hiba trees in an ancient Japanese forest and experiencing the country’s lush temple moss gardens," says Mr. Fillion. "Hwyl recaptures the feeling of solitude and refuge in nature, and stimulates the olfactory senses with an eclectic array of potent botanical extracts."
Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo Casual Life is a pliant scent that is perfect for an everyday fragrance. Fresh green notes offer a crisp subtlety that's invigorated with woody notes. Aromatic top notes of violet leaves, lemon and cardamom has an intriguing twist by way of coffee in the heart notes alongside geranium and amber. With time, cedarwood and cashmere woods leave a distinct woody finish that's exhilarating, thanks to a dry down of white musks.
