Father’s Day 2018: New and classic fragrances dad will love

Need some gift ideas on showing dad your love and appreciation this Father’s Day? You won’t go wrong with one (or more) of these five fragrances that are currently on our radar for its masculine redolence.

If he likes to be surprised (but prefers woody fragrances):

DIOR SAUVAGE EAU DE PARFUM

Dior’s Sauvage gets an Eau de Parfum interpretation this year with a handful of new notes that give it a burgeoning intensity. Composed by François Demachy, Dior’s Perfumer-Creator, the Sauvage EDP opens with Calabrian bergamot along with spicy notes of Sichuan pepper and pink peppercorns. A bouquet of spices offer an intriguing facet, with star anise and Indonesian nutmeg leading the way; while musky notes of Ambroxan, labdanum, vanilla and a hint of leather lend an ambery redolence. Not forgetting — woody base notes of vetiver for an Oriental accent.

If he doesn’t mind hints of sandalwood:

BLEU DE CHANEL PARFUM

The new Bleu De Chanel Parfum picks up where the previous two offerings left off, this time with a dash of citrus to its woody scent. Created by Olivier Polge, the fragrance opens with fresh lavender and geranium, with a heart of cedar that gives it a masculine touch. What makes it stand out is the creamy sandalwood from New Caledonia — a rare species that’s sustainably sourced by the brand, giving the fragrance a pared down yet intense trail that’s immediately recognisable.

If oud is his go-to:

JO MALONE LONDON OUD & BERGAMOT COLOGNE INTENSE

If oud is dad’s favourite wood ingredient when it comes to scents, this Oud & Bergamot Cologne Intense from Jo Malone London will be right up his alley. With the revered oud, bergamot and orange granite accords, the scent straddles the line between mysterious and refreshing — altogether a crisp yet smoky rendition that doesn’t overwhelm. Plus, how captivating is this new, limited-edition bottle design?

If contrasting notes are what he gravitates toward:

GENTLEMAN GIVENCHY EAU DE PARFUM

We can’t decide which we love more about the Gentleman Givenchy EDP: Its unpredictable woody-floral notes or its sensual base that is impeccably masculine. This Oriental scent starts out with peppery notes teemed with aromatic lavender, but a floral heart gives it a unique piquancy thanks to iris and Tolu balm. The masculine base is courtesy of woody patchouli and black vanilla, a contradicting yet pleasant fragrance that is vibrant to boot.

If he has a refined olfactory palate:

CREED ROYAL OUD

The name of this fragrance will give you an inkling of what to expect, and rest assured that it’s every bit a royal-worthy fragrance should be. Creed’s Royal Oud takes inspiration from luxurious elements of a Persian palace, such as wood, leather, marble and gold. The cologne boasts the rare (and sweet) oud for its base notes, coupled with sandalwood and Tonkin musk; not forgetting top and middle notes of lemon, bergamot, cedar and galbanum to round off this impressive cologne.
