Versatile makeup tricks you can try with Urban Decay
Beauty with an edge
1. If you have five minutes to achieve a quick beauty look, what are your go-to steps?
I like to do the brows, and we have the Brow Beater to achieve a beautiful, precise brow—this is important because the brows frame your face and it makes a powerful statement. Next, BB cream for the face because you'll have sun protection and moisturiser all in one. Then, use a blush such as the Naked Flush; mix all three shades together for an iridescent glow. Mascara is important as well, the Perversion Mascara is great because it's a triple pigment mascara for layers without clumps. And finally, a quick lip using the Revolution High-Colour Lip Gloss because you get the pigment of a lipstick with a hydrating gloss finish.
2. How would you incorporate Urban Decay's makeup for a twist to a classic look?
You can take an everyday classic look like the Hollywood glam cat-eye with a red lip for example, and use the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy (which is a mix between a silver and gold) in your inner corners of your eyes for an authentic glamour with an edge to it. I also love using the Moondust Eyeshadows because it takes your look from ordinary to extraordinary. Even with a basic lip, you can use our liners as a base because it can change the colour of your lipstick—it deepens and gives it dimension.
3. An insider's tip or trick that you always use?
I'm obsessed with our Anti-Ageing Eyeshadow Primer because not only do I use it for my eyes, but it's great for under the eyes as a concealer. It's hydrating and doesn't crease as a concealer. Also, if you have lips that are dry or if the colour doesn't go on smoothly, use the primer as a base because it allows your lipstick to glide on smoother.
4. What is a new Urban Decay favourite that you're loving lately?
I love the classic Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup because it gives full coverage and it looks amazing on all types of skin tones, and it feels like second skin. It has anti-ageing peptides and a demi-matte finish so you don't have to settle it with powder. But something new I love is the Brow Beater because it makes a huge impact on your brows—it plays with the toughness and softness of a pencil and powder brow filler, so you get a line but with a smooth creamy feel and it doesn't feel like it's scratching on your skin.
5. What is the best beauty advice you have received and love to give?
Don't limit yourself and don't put yourself in a "box". I personally love to use products that are multifunctional, like our 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils for our eyes and also as a lip colour instead of as an outline. It's all about enhancing your features and embracing what you have instead of hiding it. For example, you can get dewy, glowing skin with Naked Illuminated—I love to scrape a bit of the product off and mix it with a pump of foundation together for a highlighter-foundation. This creates an illuminated, glowing effect that doesn't give an oily sheen.
6. What do you think the most important step is in a woman's beauty routine?
Taking care of your skin is number one. I recommend using our B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray; it's not a setting spray or a primer, but it's a leave-on toner. It reduces redness and minimizes pores and oil production, kind of like a skin treatment. It has willow bark so it helps balance out sebum production. I'm obsessed with it myself!
7. How would you suggest using the Vice4 or Electric Pressed Pigment palettes for those who are apprehensive about colour?
The Vice4 can look terrifying if you're used to the Naked palettes. I love to use colour as an accent rather than a dominate shade. You can do your regular smoky look with the Naked colours, and then apply a Vice4 colour at the lower lash line; or wet your brush using our All-Nighter Setting Spray and use it as an eyeliner on the upper lash line as well.
The Electric palette is for those who love to experiment and have fun. I recommend using one shadow at a time for a pop of colour instead of all of it at once. You can use it as hair chalk by rubbing your hair on the shadow itself or applying the colour on your hair using your fingertips. It's pure pigment and a different formula from Vice4, so it can be used on your hair and washes off easily, and also on your lips as a lipstick or lip gloss. Take a mascara wand to shave off the product so it becomes loose, then mix it with a colourless lip gloss and you'll have the perfect lip colour and stain.
8. What is one quick and easy way to highlight your eyes?
Line the eyes with a slight cat-eye for a longer illusion and natural "lift". With darker eye shadows, use it as an accent shade rather than it being the dominant shade. Always highlight the brow bone and inner corners of your eye. If you have hooded eyelids and you don't have a prominent crease, you need to go dark on the lid and the definition will be higher up, nearer to where the crease would be.
