Weird and wonderful: The best of London Fashion Week SS17 beauty

Talk about stepping up to the plate – LFW brought its beauty A-game and what stunning visual feast it has been! As the week draws to a close, we round up some of our favourite ‘out there’ beauty statements from the shows – think OTT bleached brows and floral body art to faux freckles and exaggerated doll eyes that are guaranteed to be the talk of the town long after the season is over, and rightfully so.

80s Punk revival

Matty Bovan’s LFW debut was anything but subtle. Models were decked out in the designer’s eclectic pieces in a mashup of textures and psychedelic colours but the icing on the cake was the equally loud statement makeup. Bleached brows and metallic eyes inspired by ‘Godmother of Punk’ Nina Hagen sealed Bovan’s status as one of the standout shows of the week.

Floral body art

Sure, the gorgeous billowy dresses at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi were stunning but look a little closer and you’ll be mesmerized by the painstaking details of the 3D floral body art tattoos – so pretty we want to get our scrapbooking skills back on – stat.

Clown-inspired makeup

Not for the faint hearted, Ryan Lo perfected circus-chic beauty with line-thin eyebrow arches, graphic eye shadow only in the most vibrant hues, extreme lashes paired with glossy doll-like lips that were equal parts amusing as they were extravagant.

Garden-glam

Peter Jensen’s love for gardening was aptly displayed in his collection and the little details surrounding the show – a skeleton greenhouse with tall bouquets of flowers flanked by models all dressed for a glamourous day out at the garden. Bright yellow-hued eye shadow paired with the cutest sprinkle of faux freckles and finished with a dark neutral lip stole the show. Not forgetting, straw hats to shield from the sun from all the faux gardening that was bound to take place.

Floral crown x braids

The beauty combo at Boka Asu leaves a lot to be desired. Thin braids are coiled and tucked neatly into a low bun, topped off by an anti-perfection floral crown with out-of-place twigs and pretty buds in clashing colours.

Retro lips

Here’s the perfect trend if you’re itching for something adventurous but less otherworldly. Mary Katrantzou revived pops of pink, red and orange lips on her show – we love how the look commands attention from a mile away for all the right reasons.

Grunge-chic

Also, who better to look to than Topshop Unique to channel your inner cool-girl? Here, neutral eye shadow takes centrestage with nude lips and a little cheek contouring for effect. For instant street-cred, add a little spritz and flip your hair over in an extreme side part, why don’t you?
