Chanel launches its first fragrance in 15 years, the Gabrielle Chanel

2017 marks Chanel’s big year for its two major releases of the same name, the Gabrielle bag and fragrance. With the former launched earlier this year alongside a #squadgoal worthy ambassador lineup and extensive film campaigns, the latter’s release date is this September—with K-Stew to be expected as the face of the fragrance.

Recently, Chanel hosted a fragrance party in anticipation of the Gabrielle Chanel at Palais de Tokyo, with ambassadors including Pharrell Williams and Liu Wen in attendance. But here’s what you can expect from the fragrance that will likely become the new icon of the house.

Upon first glance, the bottle sports an eye-catching design that sets it apart from its previous fragrances. Instead of heavy weighted glass that’s typical of luxury scents, the maison took years to create a thin-walled glass bottle bearing a square shape—a signature of Chanel’s fragrances. Other elements of the bottle are inspired by the house’s heritage, including the matte lame gold-silver colour of the stopper inspired by the Chanel’s haute couture fabrics; and the patented embossed interior of the case that houses the bottle.

For its notes, Perfumer Olivier Polge created a “dream flower”—a combination of ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose. A headier trail is cultivated by way of an increased in intensity of jasmine, the addition of white musk notes to the ylang-ylang petals and sandalwood to the tuberose. For a fresh, zesty touch, orange blossom was boosted with mandarin peel, grapefruit zest and a hint of blackcurrant. Expect a floral halo that leaves an olfactory experience unlike any other. Watch this space for updates when the Gabrielle Chanel is released this September.
