Chanel Resort 2016: Far From Ordinary

Staged in Seoul, in an arty, polka-dotted, modern fantasy-like venue no less (with frow muses: Gisele Bündchen and Tilda Swinton), the Chanel Resort 2016 show sent social media into a frenzy. The way we see it, another Chanel show, another major dose of beauty inspiration but this time, we’re loving the influences from a combination of traditional and modern Korean culture.

Let’s talk lips

Crazy-coloured lipsticks are huge right now but this eye-catching, nearly perfect orangey-red lip shade is slightly less adventurous compared to some of the bolder browns and purples around. At the show, this matte textured lip shade looked more orangey under bright runway lights, but a bolder pink when seen backstage. Either way, it gives you a fresh look especially when  paired with a flawless complexion.

Get the look

1. Prep lips with a moisturising lip balm.
2. Apply a light layer of concealer as a base.
3. Apply lipstick from the center of the lips and blend outwards.

4. Finish with another layer of lip colour, using a lip brush for a more precise application.

Cool eye tricks

Beyond the bold and bright lips, the eyes were enhanced with small strips of falsies applied at the centre or outer corners of the top and bottom lash lines to create an almost doll-like effect.

Tom Pecheux also added an avant-garde touch to the eye makeup with unfilled eyebrows between two defined pencil lines – paying homage to thick and bold Korean-like brows – for a stronger graphic finish that balances out the overall sweet and subtle look.

Do the twist

Hairstylist Sam McKnight was inspired by the typical hairstyles of traditional noble Korean women: models wore black wigs with elaborate braids forming a side bun or a crown on top of the head.

Tip You can recreate the look at home by wrapping a classic three strand braid around the crown of your head (make sure you’ve got some bobby pins on hand).
